Site Visit to MakeIt Labs in Nashua
David Schoneman and Doris Hohensee of Nashua’s Ward 3 toured MakeIt Labs to talk entrepreneurship and jobs. MakeIt Labs, located at 29 Crown Street, is a hacker’s paradise (hacker being the term used to describe an inventor or tinkerer) where student clients can learn a new skill or test out a basic technology to see if they’re interested in learning more. Steve, MakeIt’s enthusiastic tour guide, explained that the company offers a chance to try things like mig welding, auto mechanics, sheet metal fabricating, glass work and even beer brewing, to discover an aptitude or interest without the heavy capital outlay of trying the same thing at home. MakeIt Labs is a new business and found a home for it’s entrepreneurial venture right here in Nashua and offers training that most students might not find elsewhere – training that could help a budding entrepreneur start a new career without the burden of $100,000′s in college debt.
Nashua needs to foster a business environment making it easy for new businesses to flourish, especially ones that offer as much potential benefit to the community as MakeIt Labs does.
